Guernsey has its own Retirement Annuity Trust Schemes (RATS) which are popular due partly to their flexibility.

They are available to Guernsey residents aged 18-75 and do not require any succession planning: the fund can provide income to a surviving spouse and residual funds can be passed to children or beneficiaries. They offer a wider investment choice than other pension arrangements and enable funds to be borrowed (up to 30 per cent of the fund value).

Guernsey personal pension plans can be transferred into a RATS, as can a UK company or personal one. The upper limit for contributions is set by the Income Tax Authority and tax relief is available on premiums.

Our scheme is suitable for corporate, employed, self-employed and individuals, and is suitable for  the transfer of Guernsey personal pension plans. An income from the fund can be taken at any time between the 50^th and 75^th birthday and a tax-free lump sum can be removed. RATS offer considerable benefits compared to a traditional company pension, not least a very transparent charging structure and broad investment opportunities.
